I want to buy a DVD box set but its region 2 and my regular dvd only does region 1 so, I was thinking I can just play it on my computer however, I’m not sure what region my computer’s dvd player plays. How can I find out?

You don’t do it on Windows Media Player. You do it via Device Manager. Get the properties of the drive and there will be a tab "Region". Sorted.
