are there region codes for computer games?

I live in Australia.
Can I buy the sims 3 world adventures in the US and play it on my computer in Australia?

NO. Don’t waste your money, I bought Sims 3 World Adventures in Florida and brought it home to the UK… it doesn’t work. It says that the region is wrong despite having bought a different game in the US and that plays fine. It’s an EA thing!
